Tell me briefly about the latest books you have published.
In 2010 I published a novella through the Ministry of Culture of Ecuador entitled "Vita Frunis.” Before that I published a book of short stories in 2008, my first book.

¿Has publicado en formato electrónico?
Algunos cuentos en las revistas "Big Sur", "Otro Cielo", "Punto en Línea", "La Comunidad Inconfesable", "Suelta".

Have you published in digital format?
Some short stories in the e-journals "Big Sur," "Otro Cielo," "Punto en Línea," "La Comunidad Inconfesable," "Suelta."

What blogs, electronic magazines or other Web places would you recommend for discovering new Spanish-speaking writers?
There are so many that it is impossible to keep up. I frequently visit "tomashotel" and "Big Sur" to keep informed, as well as the blog of A. Jiménez Morato. To fill up on spoken poems I can't recommend enough "PennSound" by Charles Bernstein, but it's not in Spanish!

I like to read a few blogs here and there that are crude or completely insignificant yet funny in their own form; even some gossip blogs that are poorly written but have stories that are foolishly good, but now I realize that they are not in Spanish either: "victory light" and "Gawker."

What writers have influenced your work?
I don't know what to tell you, there are so many, there is no valid list, nor one that I can remember. The thing is, everyone has his or her personal canon in addition to the fundamental canon that one needs to be familiar with. I recently discovered a female poet who has a very strange name and is extremely good, Rhett Iseman Trull (“Real Warnings"); an exceptional story writer who is Eddie Chuculate (“Cheyenne Madonna”) and I am so fascinated now with reading novels by Thomas Berger that it's maddening, especially the trilogy “Neighbors,” “Meeting Evil,” and “The Houseguest” (he is an ace for exasperating easily and intelligently).

Who are your major influences in Ibero-American literature?
I will pick a few in order to be brief but there so many: Guimarães Rosa, Pablo Palacio, César Vallejo, Alberto Laiseca, Roberto Bolaño, Fogwill.

¿Qué nuevos autores hispanohablantes recomendarías?
Federico Falco, Carlos Labbé, Andrés Barba, Mariana Enríquez, Samanta Schweblin, Pablo Katchadjian, Claudia Ulloa Donoso, Patricio Pron. Y entre jóvenes escritores ecuatorianos recomiendo harto a Jorge Izquierdo, Javier Lara Santos, Silvia Stornaiolo, Yanko Molina, Ernesto Carrión, Gabriela Alemán, Miguel Chávez, Eduardo Varas, César Vásconez Romero.

What new Spanish-speaking authors would you recommend?
Federico Falco, Carlos Labbé, Andrés Barba, Mariana Enríquez, Samanta Schweblin, Pablo Katchadjian, Claudia Ulloa Donoso, Patricio Pron. Among young Ecuadorian writers I highly recommend Jorge Izquierdo, Javier Lara Santos, Silvia Stornaiolo, Yanko Molina, Ernesto Carrión, Gabriela Alemán, Miguel Chávez, Eduardo Varas, César Vásconez Romero.

What are you working on now?
This year, the publisher from Quito Antropófago will publish a new book of short stories entitled "Musculosamente." Right now I am correcting and re-correcting a novel that I have already finished writing but is not ready. It deals with an
inexhaustible landscape that keeps repeating itself yet it´s not the same. I love the project but the novel seems boring because it also attempts to be a stylistic experiment. It´s entitled “Moscow, Idaho”.

No pido nada.

How would you like future libraries to be?
I wish there was a way not only to borrow books but also to buy them cheaply. That everything be digitized and be available in print as well. Digital materials should be open access. Unlimited free printing seems also great to me. The ideal library of the future has to have study carrels for everyone, not just desks, and caffeine pills in the vending machines. I'm not asking much.
