Tell me about the latest books you have published.
I’ve just published a novel entitled “Mientas huya el cuerpo.” It’s the second part of a trilogy or trio (I’m debating on the terminology) about lightness. This book has detective novel elements and I’ve felt very comfortable during the writing process. The previous one, the first part of this series, is entitled “Que la tierra te sea leve.” These books, despite their succinct nature, took me a long time to write. Before that, I had published three books of stories under the label
short narrative, which has also been used to describe my novels. My latest books are based on the dilution of been, history and the language that represents us.

¿Has publicado en formato electrónico?

Me divertí haciéndolo.

Have you published in electronic format?

Only short stories in a few blogs. Once, when blogs were still a new thing, I uploaded my entire first book “Habitaciones,” in one of them. Since it’s a short book, there were no issues. I had fun doing it. Later on I decided I no longer wanted it to be accessible in this format but I forgot the password and there is no way to change it. Well, there are hackers out there, but I prefer to keep the excuse of the forgotten password.

What blogs, electronic magazines or other Web places would you recommend for discovering new Spanish-speaking writers?
I always consult “Moleskine literario” by Iván Thays and from his blogs I read many others. A blog, now no longer updated, but whose content is still accessible to everyone is “Los Noveles,” by Salvador Luis. It was, undoubtedly, the best place to find out what younger authors were up to.

Ahora citaría a José Donoso, Juan Carlos Onetti, Rubem Fonseca, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Enrique Vila-Matas y Clarice Lispector. También citaría poetas como Pedro Salinas y Martín Adán.

Who are your major influences in Ibero-American literature?
I always give out different lists, given that these references reappear in me depending on what I’m writing. I would now name José Donoso, Juan Carlos Onetti, Rubem Fonseca, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Enrique Vila-Matas and Clarice Lispector. I would also name poets such as Pedro Salinas and Martín Adán.

Eliot, Montale, Pessoa, etc.

What other writers have influenced your work?
Following the same criteria as in my previous answer, I would name Samuel Beckett, Patrick Modiano, George Perec, Kawabata, Akutagawa, Yi Munyol, Salinger, Hemingway, T.S. Eliot, Montale, Pessoa, etc.

What new Spanish-speaking authors would you recommend?

Young authors have it easy now. There are many ways to disseminate what they are writing. There are two good anthologies that prove this precisely: "El futuro no es nuestro" compiled by Diego Trelles Paz, a good writer himself, and "Asamblea portátil" by the equally interesting writer Salvador Luis. I'm particularly interested in the writing of Patricio Pron and Alejandro Zambra. I also like Peruvian poets such as Romy Sordómez, Martín Zúñiga, Andrea Cabel, Paúl Guillén, Cecilia Podestá, etc.

What are you working on now?
Right now on the revision of a collection of micro-fiction entitled “Enciclopedia plástica.” Understandably, I have a lot of doubts about what I write. But I continue to advance. I’m also making some mental notes for the third novel, which, supposedly, will conclude the "Lightness trio". But I don’t know, it could become a quartet just as easily.

How would you like future libraries to be?
I would really like future libraries to be like the ones in the past, where you would look for information in card catalogs. I miss that. I used to discover so many things.
